Northside Clinic is a new General Practice owned and staffed by a number of GPs with years of experience working in Melbourne’s inner north. The clinic is open to all, but has a particular focus on providing quality medical care for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans communities in Melbourne’s north. The clinic provides comprehensive testing for and management of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and HIV, as well as a full range of General Practice services. Osteopathy and Psychology services and pathology collection are available at the clinic premises. Northside Clinic has been Accredited by AGPAL and recognised as meeting the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners standards in providing quality care.
HOW TO SEE A DOCTOR
Northside Clinic sees patients on an appointment basis. To book, call reception on (03) 9485 7700 and our reception staff will arrange an appointment with the doctor of your choice. If your problem is urgent, please inform reception staff so they can arrange an appointment as soon as possible. Appointments are set for 15 minutes, however longer consultations are available upon request. If you have complex, or a number of health issues to discuss with your doctor, please consider booking a longer appointment so that all of your concerns can be investigated. Registered patients of the clinic will receive SMS reminders of their appointments. This is sent out the afternoon before the appointment. Please respond to the message to indicate your confirmation of attendance. If you do not wish to receive reminder SMS messages for appointments, please advise the reception staff. Patients who fail to attend appointments may be charged a non-attendance fee.
TRANSFER YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS
If would like your existing medical records transferred from another clinic, please click here, and forward a signed copy to the clinic you would like the records sent from. Please note that some medical centres charge an administration fee for transferring records.
LOCATION
Northside Clinic is located at 370 St. Georges Road, Fitzroy North (Google Map). It is on the tram line 112 (Stop 24 or 25), just north of Holden St. Holden St. is served by Bus 250 and Bus 251. The clinic is a few minutes walk from Merri train station on the Epping line.
PARKING AND DISABLED ACCESS
Street parking is available directly outside the clinic on St Georges Rd (1 hour between 9am – 4.30pm Mon- Friday, 9.30am – 12.30pm Sat). Side streets close to the clinic offer parking ranging from 2 hours to all day. We have a side lane entrance with ramp access for patients with wheelchairs or large prams. When you arrive, ring the doorbell and the reception staff will let you in and direct you through to reception.
NON-OCCUPATIONAL POST EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS (NPEP)
Northside Clinic offers Non-occupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis (NPEP) treatment to patients who have potentially had a high risk HIV exposure. Please advise reception staff when booking that you may require NPEP treatment so that the soonest available appointment can be offered. NPEP treatment must be commenced within 72 hours of exposure. If you require NPEP out of Northside Clinic hours we recommend contacting the NPEP Helpline on 1800 889 887 (24 Hours) for advice.
HIV CLINICAL TRIALS
Northside Clinic participates in many clinical trials related to the treatment and management of HIV. If you are interested in participating, please ask to speak to our Clinical Trials Co-ordinator (Sian Edwards) or discuss the matter with your treating doctor.
AFTER HOURS MEDICAL CARE
Melbourne Medical Deputising Service provide out of hours medical services for Northside Clinic patients. They can be contacted on (03) 9429 5677. Home visits from a locum can be booked after 6pm Mon-Fri and after 11am on Saturdays. Please discuss fees and charges when you call MMDS to book after hours consultations as they may differ from Northside Clinic fees.
Nurse on Call can be reached on 1300 60 60 24. Registered Nurses on this phone line provide triage and advice free of charge. The service is available 24 hours a day.
HOME VISITS
Home visits are available by prior arrangement for regular patients who reside in close proximity, and whose condition prevents them from attending the clinic. Our reception staff can provide you with further information regarding fees, billing and home visit services.
REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS, REFERRALS AND PATHOLOGY TEST RESULTS
Doctors providing prescriptions, referrals to specialists or pathology test results are responsible ethically and legally to ensure that these are correct and warranted. Therefore, a consultation with a doctor will be necessary. Referrals for treatment by specialists and pathology tests may incur additional charges. All telephone requested replacement scripts and referrals posted out to patients will incur an administration fee.
MINOR OPERATIONS
Minor procedures and operations are available to patients of Northside Clinic. These include Implanon insertion and removal, suture of lacerations, skin biopsies and minor lesion removal as well as the treatment of undisplaced fractures. All equipment used is disposable, sterile and maintained according to infection control guidelines to prevent cross infection.
